Mama Cat
*Mama Cat As stand alone boulders go this is
a good one. Good tall fun warmups and
several a fun midrange problems and a
couple fun hard problems. And the approach
is pretty minimal. All in a fun place for a
session of bouldering.
Directions: Mama Cat is just west of
Woodfords, CA. From the intersection of SR
88 and 89 head west. Its on the north side of
the highway. Park a pullout with an old green
gate. The boulder is pretty obvious.
1. ***!V2R Start with you
right hand on a slopey pinch
and your left on a crimp and
use some high footin and
take the crimps up. This gets
high and the rock in the
landing is a little nerve
racking. Good times.
2. V2/3? Southwest Arete
I've never done this one, but
I hear you start on the left
side of the arete and end up
on the right side. It's tall.
3. V2? Crimps 3' right of the
arete and up you go. I've
never done this one either.
4. V3? Thin crack to a face
climb I hear.
5. *V2 Fun little crimp fest
on the face. You can either
use the thin crimps or reach
past them.
6. *V0 The rounded arete
7. *V0 Good holds and low
angle.
8. ***V5 The Rail SDS and
take the slopey rail up and
right. Good times.
9. ***V4 SDS with cool
moves and a couple of
possible exits.
10. V8? Dano's Arete I'm
not sure of what to make of
this one. All the holds are
upside down.
11. V8? Tommy's Arete
The balancy right side of the
arete. This looks doable, but
I haven't got it yet.
